What is A Year of Good Work?

A Year of Good Work is a project for my soul. I’ve learned a lot over the past decade as I’ve jumped head first into gardening, cooking, foraging, and learning to live a bit closer to nature. The thing that stands out above the rest is the fact that I feel significantly better doing certain activities. I’m choosing calling that Good Work. For me Good Work is defined by a few criteria, but mostly that it touches my soul in some way or another (you can read my full definition in this post). I encourage you to define Good Work for yourself based on your own beliefs, values, experiences, and traditions.

For one full calendar year, I am going to take you along my journey as I try, learn, succeed, fail, and savor. I’ll share with my my monthly tasks and how that Good Work has helped heal me, as well as any wisdom I learn along the way.

Who am I?

My name is Camilla. I like to write and overshare. I’ve been doing it for 15 years through blogs and online publications. I’m an American who currently living in rural Slovenia. A few years ago my husband and I sold our house (that we built) just outside of Seattle, packed up our two daughters, three animals, and about 30% of our belongings (we sold the rest) and moved to a very small cottage in the countryside of Northern Slovenia, just along the Austrian border, where my husband grew up. I enjoy growing and cooking good food, foraging for porcini mushrooms, and trying to master sourdough bread-making. I’m an over-thinker, a dreamer, and a wide open book. Mostly I’m grateful for those qualities, but they tend to cause me trouble (usually in the form of fear and worry). I can feel that it’s time for me to evolve, acquire some wisdom and continue my life with an open spirit.
